Understanding Your Intuition Authority

Birgitte Riddersholm·Feb 11, 2026· 3 minutes

Have you ever felt pulled in a direction without fully understanding why? Or made a decision that “just felt right,” even if it didn’t make logical sense? That inner knowing isn’t coincidence - it’s your Intuition Authority speaking.

In the world of Human Design, understanding your personal decision-making authority is a game-changer. It’s your built-in guidance system, helping you navigate life aligned with your energy and true self.

What is Intuition?

Intuition is that subtle, internal guidance that knows the answer before your mind does. It’s not about overthinking or rational analysis - it’s about feeling, sensing, and tuning in to what resonates with your deepest truth. When you trust your intuition, you make decisions that feel alive, expansive, and aligned.

In Human Design, your intuition isn’t just a “nice-to-have.” It’s your primary decision-making tool. And depending on your type and authority, the way your intuition communicates to you changes.

The 5 +1 Intuition Authorities

Human Design identifies five core intuition authorities, plus one special category for Reflectors. Each has a unique way of guiding you. Here’s a snapshot of how they work:

1. Emotional Authority

  • Your guidance comes through waves of emotion, not instant clarity.

  • Decisions feel right when you ride the emotional highs and lows.

  • Patience is key - you need to wait for emotional clarity before acting.

2. Sacral Authority

  • Your intuition is a gut response—a deep “yes” or “no” that comes instantly.

  • Your body often knows before your mind does.

  • Listening to physical signals like energy and tension helps guide your choices.

3. Splenic Authority

  • An instinctual knowing—like a whisper of what’s safe and correct.

  • It’s subtle, often fleeting, and demands trust.

  • Decisions are best made in the moment, based on what your body senses.

4. Ego / Heart Authority

  • Your inner guidance comes from desire, willpower, and what motivates you.

  • Decisions feel right when aligned with your personal power and value.

  • Beware of pushing past resistance—listen to what you truly want, not what you “should.”

5. Throat / Self-Projected Authority

  • Your intuition is expressed through your voice and self-expression.

  • Talking out loud reveals what resonates with your true self.

  • Decisions become clearer when you hear yourself speak your thoughts.

+1: Reflector Authority

  • Reflectors experience intuition differently—they mirror the environment and energies around them.

  • Decisions require time and lunar cycles to gain clarity.

  • They are highly sensitive, needing alignment with the right people and spaces.

Why Your Intuition Authority Matters

Knowing your Intuition Authority in Human Design isn’t just spiritual fluff—it’s practical. When you trust it:

  • You make decisions faster and with less doubt.

  • You align your life with your authentic energy, rather than external expectations.

  • You reduce burnout and frustration because you operate in flow instead of force.

The challenge? Many of us override our natural authority by relying too much on logic, advice, or societal pressure. The result: indecision, anxiety, and living out of alignment.
