Living in Your Genius Zone
Most people are living far below their true potential - not because they lack talent, but because they’ve never been shown where their deepest power actually lives.
In The Big Leap, Gay Hendricks describes four zones of human functioning. These zones explain why we often feel busy, capable, even successful… yet still unfulfilled.
Your task in life is not to become “better.” It is to move into the zone where you are most alive.
That zone is your Genius Zone.
Let’s explore what that really means.
The Four Zones of Living
1. The Zone of Incompetence
This is where you struggle. Tasks feel heavy, draining, and unnatural. You may try hard, but the results are limited. Most of us move out of this zone early in life.
2. The Zone of Competence
Here, you are capable. You can perform adequately, but others can do it just as well as you. It doesn’t light you up. It simply “works.”
3. The Zone of Excellence
This is where many high performers live. You are skilled, respected, and often rewarded. You do things well. People rely on you here.
But even though you succeed, something inside still feels… restricted. You may ask:
-
“Why do I feel tired, even when I’m good at this?”
-
“Why doesn’t this fully satisfy me?”
-
“Is this really why I’m here?”
4. The Zone of Genius
This is where your natural gifts, creativity, and soul meet. Your work feels meaningful. Time disappears. Energy expands instead of depleting. You don’t just do well - you become fully yourself.
This is where your deepest contribution lives.
Zone of Excellence vs. Zone of Genius
This is the most important distinction.
Zone of Excellence:
You are good at what you do. It is often built through effort, discipline, and external expectations.
Zone of Genius:
You are aligned with what you do. It flows from who you are.
Here is their common ground:
Both are created through consciousness.
But their direction is different.
-
Excellence comes from mastering skills.
-
Genius comes from embodying your truth.
Excellence asks: “How can I perform better?”
Genius asks: “Who am I here to be?”
Most people stay in Excellence because it feels safe, familiar, and socially rewarded.
How This Connects to the Human Change Model™
In Phase Two: Change, you begin waking up. You release old patterns, question your identity, and explore new ways of being. This is often where people leave survival mode and step into their Zone of Excellence. They become more conscious, more capable, more self-aware.
This is also where many start working with tools like:
-
Human Design
-
Astrology
-
Breathwork
-
Therapy
-
Energy work
Here, you are refining who you are. You are discovering your strengths, your patterns, your gifts. Human Design, in particular, is one of the most powerful tools I know for identifying the direction of your Genius.
But Phase Two is still about exploration.
In Phase Three: Consciousness, something deeper happens.
You no longer live from improvement alone.
You live from alignment.
Here, Passion, Position, and People come into harmony with your inner Purpose.
This is the moment you stop trying to become someone, and begin fully being who you are.
This is your Genius Zone.
My Genius Zone
For me, my Genius Zone is not a job description. Instead, it is an energy.
I read people.
I inspire humans to change at a soul level.
I lead toward evolution, consciousness, and the new spiritual era.
I don’t just teach tools - I translate awareness into lived experience (gate 62 in my Human Design).
I don’t just guide change - I inspire people (channel 50-27 & gate 8 in my Human Design)
This is where I feel most alive. And this is where House of Being was born.
